REFLEX SYMPATHETIC DYSTROPHY:

Treating Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy with Medical Marijuana

What is Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy?

Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, or RSD, is a disorder that tends to appear following a heart attack, injury, or stroke and causes significant and enduring pain in the patient’s arms or legs. Unfortunately, according to WebMD, the pain of this condition is often worse than the initial injury or episode. Furthermore, the sympathetic nervous system controls blood flow movement which, in turn, regulates your blood pressure and heart rate. Patients with RSD have a nervous system that gets conflicting signals, which means your body reacts to the initial injury and the pain sensors never turn off as they should. The resulting pain is significant and lasting. RSD is not common in children and typically appears in adults between the ages of 30 and 60. While RSD is often prompted from an injury such as a fracture, burns, cuts, amputation, etc., the condition is not always associated with a previous injury or ailment.

Reflex Sympathetic Dytrophy is also commonly referred to as Type I CRPS, which stands for Complex Regional Pain Syndrome.

Symptoms of Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy

Symptoms of Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy can include, but are not limited to:

  • Burning pain

  • Limited mobility of injured area
  • Muscle weakness

Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy and Medical Marijuana

In addition to treating the direct symptoms of RSD, medical marijuana has shown to be tremendously beneficial in relieving the sleep troubles, anxiety, depression, and stress brought on by the disease. In addition to these psychiatric benefits, the antiinflammatory properties of cannabis offer significant relief for the pain associated with RSD. Many patients have relied on pharmaceuticals to treat RSD, however these carry risks that are not associated with medical cannabis, such as damage to the kidneys, liver, and stomach.

Medical Marijuana offers tremendous benefits to the patients suffering from RSD, including relief of nerve pain, inflammation, muscle spasms, stiff joints, and numerous psychological side effects. If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with RSD, contact a medical marijuana doctor today.

Mary, 76

Summerfield Medical Marijuana Doctor

– 6 months on medical cannabis
– Back Pain, sleeping problems

Pain kept me awake at night. I seldom got a full night’s sleep. My doctor gave me a prescription drug and it helped but when I wanted to stop using it I found I had to detox myself. I applied for the medical marijuana and pain reduced big time. Now I can relax and sleep, now I can volunteer and do all the activities I love.

Richard B., 71

Pensacola Medical Marijuana Doctor

– 2 1/2 months on medical cannabis
– PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)

I’m a front line combat veteran. I was in Vietnam– July 67-68. The medical marijuana has given me some mental peace that I have not experienced in 50 years. It doesn’t take it away but it does soften the past experiences of combat.

Margaret, 89

Summerfield Medical Marijuana Doctor

– 2 months on medical cannabis
– Severe and chronic pain, arthritis

I have suffered terribly with post-herpetic neuropathy (after-shingles nerve damage), causing pain at night that is easily a 9/10 on a scale of 10, plus severe arthritis, back and leg pain. Since taking CBD tincture for two months, I have NO shingles pain during the night and, for the first time in almost 5 years, I’m getting a full night’s sleep! I also have days where I feel better all over than I have in the past 20 years! I find the results miraculous and the answer to a prayer. My quality of life has totally changed for the good.

Excerpt: “With the medical cannabis and coming off of all the narcotics and opioids, I’m able to function as more so myself these days. My pulmonary function tests have changed drastically. My diffusion capacity went from 0.14% to about 85% within the last year, so we’re hoping to get me back to work within the next year depending on how this process goes…”

Jay, 57

– Previously treated with opioids

Off opioids. Blood sugar down. Whole body arthritis, off more pills. Multiple chronic conditions. Plants, not pills. My experiences are 100% positive; and I have regained the will, and desire, to face today….and tomorrow. NOTE: sharing my experience, not giving medical advice; each patient is different.
